We teach a class of 5th & 6th graders on Sunday mornings. Sometimes our conversations get interesting.
Will: Missionaries tell people all around the world about Jesus. Can you think of any ways we can support missionaries?
Student: Wait a minute. Missionaries are people from other countries that you pay to fight for you, right?
Me: Um, I think those are mercenaries.
Student: Oh.
(I think missionaries would make a lot more money if they had second jobs as mercenaries. May be a conflict of interest, though.)

Imagination
While driving home last night, there was a pretty spectacular sunset lighting up the clouds in the sky.
Graham: I see a mosasaur! I see a rocketship! I see a shark!
(pause)
Chase: I see clouds!

Flubber
We made flubber the other day. Chase didn't want to touch it at first, but he eventually did.
The blob on top ran all over the floor.
Here's what happens when you leave it on the table and go out for the evening...

Spring Soccer
Graham had his first soccer game last Saturday. Will took several videos for us at home, and he happened to get one when Graham scored a goal. It sounded impressive to me until Will said it's roughly a 50/50 chance of luck vs. skill when they score. Oh well... Graham was excited.

Why, yes. Yes you are.
Graham's sense of humor is evolving. When I made the comment that we sure have three fun kids, he said,
"Are we funner than a piggy on a piggy-back ride?"
He said he made it up himself. I believe him.

Nothing to see here, folks.
Chase's school held a Bring a Special Person to School Day a few weeks ago. It just so happened that we were running short on Special People that morning, so we worked it out so that I could attend with him. He was extremely excited, and as we walked into the gym, he was literally jumping up and down.
It must have subsided by the time the introductions rolled around. The teacher started with Carter, who said he brought his grandpa with him. Then she moved on to Chase.
Mrs. Wilma: Chase, who did you bring with you today?
Chase: I just brought a monster truck.
Mrs. Wilma: What?
Me: I'm a monster truck.
(Everyone laughs.)
Mrs. Wilma: Chase, who did you bring along today?
(Chase looks at her quizzically.)
Mrs. Wilma: Who is that standing behind you?
Chase: Oh, that's just Mommy.
I guess they should have renamed it, Bring a Monster Truck or Just Anybody With a Heartbeat Day.
