Riddles in the Dark

Graham and I are reading the Hobbit together, and we got to the chapter where Bilbo the Hobbit is trading riddles with Gollum. I read this riddle to him:

A box without hinges, key, or lid,
Yet golden treasure inside is hid.

I thought maybe he could guess this one with a little extra help, so I offered a few more clues. "It's something that you have to break open, and there's a yellow thing inside, and we eat it a lot with bacon." Graham paused for a moment and gave his answer.

"Squash?"

(This one was for you, Grandma, as they love your squash/brown sugar/bacon recipe...)

...which is now mostly about the kids.
