The CombineTrip

While we were driving one Saturday evening this summer, we happened to see a combine working in a field of wheat. Since we didn't have any particular schedule, Will pulled over and we watched for a minute. Soon, the combine drove up to us and stopped. We were both a little surprised and expected the farmer to politely ask us to leave his property.

The farmer, however, had another idea. When Will got out to talk to him, the man told Will to bring the boys over. Will helped them up into the cab and the farmer told him to close the door behind him. Then they took off, shocking Will and leaving Gabriella and me staring in the dust. Will and the boys spent the next 45 minutes combining a wheat field with a complete stranger (which certainly put Will out of his comfort zone). The boys had a blast, though. They are still talking about it when we drive by the field.

Yes, they were very excited. Will said it was so awkward sitting in a combine, talking to a random guy for 45 minutes. Haha!

That's awesome!!

Haha, what do you talk about for 45 minutes?

"So ahhh, this is a mighty fine combine you got yerself here. She run on diesel?"

Hahaha... Yep, I think that's about as far as they got. Will said after the guy talked about his family for a long time, they just sat in silence.

My dad would have been in extroverted farmer heaven! Exactly how big *is* the cab on a combine?!

Oh, I wish your dad had been the one to pick them up, then! The cab was definitely big enough for the farmer (who was not svelte), Will, and the two boys. The farmer said they don't even make combines that small anymore.

What a nice farmer!

...which is now mostly about the kids.
